The following resolutions were made;

Report by manager and resolutions

 

  1. Reports and reporting

very good reports are required

Every volunteer should write a report on the findings during class work/teaching time

Reports should be learner based or learner centered

This should include new things children discovers on the XO laptop

The way learners responded to the lesson in both math and

HIV/AIDS classes

should capture presentations made by children in class on their interaction of XO laptop.

reports should be as interesting as possible

what children enjoyed most on XO laptop and the lesson generally

Volunteers will prepare children for XO project competitions by making presentations on poems, songs, plays or role play

Reports on frequently used activities on the laptop

HOC team to tailor an English curriculum to help learners use XO activities to improve on language skills.

Volunteers to be more innovative come up with more ways of using the activities on the xo laptop.

  1. Mode of teaching and presentation

-It shall be learner centered, teachers only guide children/learners but not lecturing through out.

-Paint activity use should be enhanced e.g. children drawing houses, posters of HIV/AIDS, snakes/reptiles, Hospital, sketch of a human being.

-Volunteers to prepare learners for August XO laptop competitions that is forthcoming.

-This should be done by helping children choose their preferred topics

-Extra USBs are required for recording the work done in class and directly posting the work on the blog

-Clarion activities will be adopted for presentations by OLPC TEAMS.

-Certificates will be given by HOC

-HOC team will give two exams in each class at the end of this term;

  • Theory on XO
  • Practical exams

-Debates will be adopted to discuss topics like the effect of ARVs.

-A few texts will be made available for learners doing turtle type to save time.

-There will be increased internet use by regular teachers and learners in the project schools.

-Improving in English tips are available on internet.

-It was reported that learners and regular teachers are accessing internet using it to to get revision materials for K.C.S.E (Kenya certificate for secondary education) and K.C.P.E (Kenya certificate of primary education)

  1. Opening an office of HOC

It was agreed that HOC immediately opens an office at Butonge market. Funds had been allocated for the same.

  1. Sustainability of the project

HOC has to engage in income generating projects to help meet the costs of running the project.

The manager reported that after discussing with Small Solutions through Sandra our sponsor,  two projects were proposed to be started;

a)Offering printing services,-Two computers had been sent and are yet to be received by HOC. Small Solutions will help buy projectors for the Youth Friendly Corner, printers and other necessary equipments to start off.

b)Showing video of games and sports to youths and other people at a fee.

-SS will provide a DSTV  decoder and dish, a monitor and funds to start off the place. Other activities may include; farming and trading by HOC to generate income, mounting fundraising activities/functions.

  1. Roles

Bonventure (assistant leader) will allocate roles and timetable to be communicated to the Manager later. The roles will be detailed and clear.

  1. Review of XO activities

-HOC team took time to review the work on XO and activities found on the laptops.

7. Way forward

            -Lessons to continue in schools

-Sitabicha Secondary School will be incorporated to take the place of Bukokholo Girls whose timetable is so busy for this Term.

-schools to be covered are;

  • Bukokholo primary school
  • Kibeu primary school
  • Butonge primary school
  • Sitabicha secondary school
